Close Combat

A Bridge To Far

Close Combat:A Bridge To Far,
Close Combat: A Bridge Too Far is a real-time,
historically accurate World War II strategy game
that puts you in command of either the Allied or
Axis forces during the epic Operation Market
Garden battle in German controlled Holland.
This follow up to the original
Close Combat, winner of PC Gamers "Best War Game
of the Year" award, features highly realistic
tactical combat for intense "in the trenches"
fighting, adds a new strategic layer to challenge
players to out-think their opponents in
the war room, and includes dynamic battle flow
in which players can push or be pushed back
across battle maps. Another new innovation will
be Battlemaker, which gives players the ability to
create customized battles by setting deployment
zones, victory locations, initial force mix and
requisition points. And it wouldn't be a Close
Combat sequel without realistic soldier behaviors
and full multiplayer capabilities. See if you have
what it takes to rewrite history, or better yet, see
if you have what it takes to lead men into battle,
survive, and win.

As the clock ticks down in the desperate fight to
control five strategic bridges across the rivers
Rhine, Waal and Maas, you'll see why Operation
Market-Garden is easily one of the most dramatic
battles of World War II. The biggest airdrop
operation ever attempted, this battle cost the
Allies nearly twice as many casualties as D-Day
and although it was hoped to be the lightning
strike needed to end the war in 1944, things
didn't quite go as planned !!

Comment's About Close Combat
"A unique real-time strategy game which goes
one step further by adding elements usually
found in hex-based war sims while keeping the
action fast-paced. Clearly, A Bridge Too Far is a
real-time strategy game with brains."
Happy Puppy, September '97

"This holiday's deluge of real-time strategy
games are to Close Combat: A Bridge Too Far what
ROTC is to West Point -- your standard-issue RTS
game is kiddie-fare compared with Microsoft's
'serious' re-creation of the Allied airborne assault
in Holland at the end of World War II."
Gamepower, September, '97

"With all of these additions and enhancements,
the realism of the troops behavior and the
strategic realism of the battles themselves, I
have to say I am eagerly awaiting Microsoft's
Close Combat 2."
Gamesmania, September, '97

"While I've yet to serve in any war (knock
knock), to me, this is the truest representation of
war yet. The sounds of incoming fire and soldiers
screaming are so accurate, you'll feel remorse
when a unit bites it and fear when the ambush
opens up on you."
Gamepen, September, '97

"While a lot of companies would have been
content in simply creating an expansion pack for
their original engine, Atomic has wisely listened
to the wishes of fans and have implemented just
about everything you could ever want from a
historically accurate real-time game."
Online Gaming Review, September, '97

"If it isn't one of the most popular Internet
strategy titles around, I'll swallow my stogie."
Computer Gaming World, August, '97
